Panel Conversations

Six connected conversations will examine the aviation system from airline economics and airport services to safety, regulation, African connectivity and future capability. Each session will combine moderated discussion with practical questions for the industry.

Panel 01

Sustainable Nigerian Airlines

Building Sustainable Nigerian Airlines: Fleet, Funding, Fuel, Taxes, Routes and Operating Costs.

What does it take to build an airline that can grow, attract investment and compete over the long term? This panel will explore airline business models, route economics, aircraft acquisition and leasing, fleet renewal, access to finance and foreign exchange, fuel costs, insurance and maintenance. It will also consider how taxes, charges and the operating environment affect commercial sustainability.

The conversation will connect the perspectives of operators, financiers, lessors, insurers and service providers to identify practical ways to strengthen Nigerian airlines.

The Central Question How can Nigeria create an operating- and investment-friendly environment in which airlines can grow sustainably, attract capital, renew their fleets and compete internationally?
Panel 02

Future Nigerian Airports

Infrastructure, Passenger Experience, Cargo, Commercialisation and Aerotropolis Development.

How can airports become efficient transport facilities and commercially sustainable economic hubs? This session will examine terminal capacity, passenger facilitation, accessibility, baggage and disruption management, cargo infrastructure, ground handling and maintenance facilities. Discussion will also cover concession and partnership models, non-aeronautical revenues, environmental management and airport-city development.

Delegates will explore how investment and operational improvements can create better experiences for passengers and stronger opportunities for trade and business.

The Central Question How should Nigerian airports evolve from traditional transport facilities into efficient, commercially sustainable, passenger-focused aviation, cargo and economic hubs?
Panel 03

Connecting Nigeria to Africa and the World

SAATM, the Yamoussoukro Decision and Nigeria’s Role in African Aviation.

Better connectivity requires more than new routes. This conversation will examine market access, the Single African Air Transport Market, bilateral air service arrangements, regional cooperation, airline partnerships and hub development. It will consider passenger and cargo connections, travel facilitation and the relationship between aviation, tourism and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The focus will be on the policy, operational and commercial steps that can help Nigeria build stronger connections within Africa and beyond.

The Central Question How can Nigeria use SAATM, regional cooperation, route development, aviation liberalisation and airline partnerships to expand connectivity and establish itself as a major African aviation hub?
Panel 04

Airspace Modernization

Modernising and Securing Nigeria’s Airspace: CNS/ATM, Automation, Meteorology, Cybersecurity and Future Air Navigation.

Reliable air navigation depends on infrastructure, skilled personnel and timely information working together. This panel will examine communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management; automation; performance-based navigation; weather information; and the capacity to support future traffic.

The discussion will address system availability, redundancy, cybersecurity, contingency arrangements and recovery, with a focus on keeping airspace services safe, resilient and efficient.

The Central Question What technology, infrastructure and institutional reforms are required to make Nigerian airspace safer, more resilient, digitally enabled and capable of supporting future traffic growth?
Panel 05

Regulations that Enable Growth

Future-Ready Aviation Regulation: Effective Oversight, Governance, Accident Management and Industry Development.

Strong oversight and a workable operating environment are both essential to aviation progress. This panel will examine regulatory effectiveness, independence, governance, risk-based oversight, proportionate enforcement and alignment with international aviation standards; accident prevention and investigation. It will also explore digital regulatory services, consumer protection and approaches to assessing new business models and technologies.

Participants will discuss how clearer processes and predictable decisions can support compliance, innovation and investment while maintaining safety standards.

The Central Question How can Nigeria strengthen regulatory effectiveness, safety oversight, accident investigation and prevention while creating an environment that supports innovation, investment and aviation growth?
Panel 06

Aviation Technology and the Future

Nigeria Aviation 2035: Building the Workforce, Technology and Innovation Ecosystem for the Future.

What capabilities should the industry build today for the aviation system it will need tomorrow? This panel will connect human capital development with digital transformation, including competency-based training, instructor development, simulation, leadership and succession planning.

It will also explore artificial intelligence, data platforms, automation, digital twins, cybersecurity, drones, advanced air mobility and emerging aircraft technologies. The discussion will ask how organisations can adopt useful innovation while developing the people and institutional capacity to sustain it.

The Central Question What people, skills, technologies and institutional capabilities must Nigeria develop today to build the aviation industry it needs by 2035?
